CBC Centre

The CBC Biogas Plant program at Gravity Resource Centre targets primary school children in Kenya, enhancing their understanding of renewable energy and environmental sustainability through practical, hands-on learning. The program is structured to cater to different age groups, ensuring that the content is age-appropriate and engaging for all primary grades.

Lower Primary (Grades 1-3):

Young learners are introduced to the basic concepts of biogas and its importance. They learn about waste and its impact on the environment through simple, interactive activities such as sorting organic and inorganic waste. The focus is on cultivating an early awareness of environmental stewardship and introducing the idea of renewable energy in a fun and engaging way.

Middle Primary (Grades 4-5):

Students delve deeper into the science behind biogas production. They explore the components and functions of a biogas plant, including the role of microorganisms in anaerobic digestion. Hands-on activities include building small models of biogas plants using everyday materials. This stage emphasizes the practical application of scientific concepts and fosters curiosity and critical thinking.

Upper Primary (Grades 6-8):

Older students engage in more complex aspects of biogas technology. They learn about the engineering principles involved in constructing and maintaining a biogas plant and the economic and social benefits of biogas for communities. Activities include monitoring and recording data on biogas production and efficiency, troubleshooting common issues, and discussing ways to innovate and improve biogas technology. This level focuses on developing problem-solving skills, scientific inquiry, and a deeper understanding of sustainable practices.
