Gravity Centre

The CBC Birds Sanctuary program at Gravity Resource Centre is designed for primary school pupils in Kenya, aiming to deepen their understanding of avian biology, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity through experiential learning. The sanctuary, home to a diverse array of birds including doves, turkeys, ducks, geese, and domestic fowls, offers a structured curriculum that allows students to explore various aspects of ornithology and ecology.

Lower Primary (Grades 1-3):

Pupils are introduced to fundamental concepts of bird life and their environments. They participate in activities such as observing birds in their natural habitats, learning about different bird species, and understanding the ecological significance of birds. The focus is on fostering an early appreciation for wildlife, basic bird care, and the fundamental roles birds play in ecosystems, delivered through engaging and interactive methods.

Middle Primary (Grades 4-5):

Students advance their knowledge with a more detailed study of bird anatomy, behavior, and ecological roles. They engage in activities such as constructing bird feeders, identifying various species, and studying bird communication and migration patterns. This stage emphasizes the application of scientific principles and encourages critical thinking about bird conservation and the impact of human activities on avian populations.

Upper Primary (Grades 6-8):

Older pupils explore advanced topics in bird conservation and ecology. They examine threats to bird species, such as habitat destruction and climate change, and investigate strategies for effective conservation. Activities include designing bird habitats, monitoring bird health and populations, and participating in conservation projects. This phase aims to develop problem-solving skills, scientific inquiry, and a comprehensive understanding of sustainable practices essential for biodiversity preservation.
