Gravity Centre

The CBC Farm Animals program at Gravity Resource Centre targets primary school children in Kenya, enhancing their understanding of animal husbandry, environmental sustainability, and food production through practical, hands-on learning. The program is structured to cater to different age groups, ensuring that the content is age-appropriate and engaging for all primary grades.

Lower Primary (Grades 1-3):

Young learners are introduced to the basics of farm animals and their care. They engage in activities such as feeding animals, learning about different types of farm animals (like chickens, goats, and cows), and understanding the importance of animals in daily life. The focus is on cultivating an early appreciation for animal life, understanding basic animal care, and learning about the role of animals in food production in a fun and interactive way.

Middle Primary (Grades 4-5):

Students delve deeper into the science of animal husbandry. They learn about animal habitats, the importance of nutrition and health care for animals, and the various products animals provide (such as milk, eggs, and meat). Hands-on activities include helping with daily care routines, learning about animal anatomy and physiology, and exploring the life cycles of different farm animals. This stage emphasizes the practical application of scientific concepts and fosters curiosity and critical thinking about sustainable animal farming practices.

Upper Primary (Grades 6-8):

Older students engage in more complex aspects of animal husbandry. They study breeding practices, animal health management, and the economic and environmental impacts of animal farming. Activities include planning and managing a small-scale animal farm, analyzing the health and productivity of farm animals, and exploring innovative practices in animal husbandry such as organic farming and integrated farming systems. This level focuses on developing problem-solving skills, scientific inquiry, and a deeper understanding of sustainable agricultural practices.
