Gravity Centre

The CBC Farm Garden program at Gravity Resource Centre targets primary school children in Kenya, enhancing their understanding of agriculture, environmental sustainability, and food production through practical, hands-on learning. The program is structured to cater to different age groups, ensuring that the content is age-appropriate and engaging for all primary grades.

Lower Primary (Grades 1-3):

Young learners are introduced to the basics of gardening and plant life. They engage in activities such as planting seeds, watering plants, and observing growth cycles. The focus is on cultivating an early appreciation for nature, understanding where food comes from, and learning basic gardening skills in a fun and interactive way.

Middle Primary (Grades 4-5):

Students delve deeper into the science of agriculture. They learn about soil types, composting, and the role of sunlight and water in plant growth. Hands-on activities include creating small compost bins, testing soil pH, and caring for a variety of plants in the garden. This stage emphasizes the practical application of scientific concepts and fosters curiosity and critical thinking about sustainable farming practices.

Upper Primary (Grades 6-8):

Older students engage in more complex aspects of agriculture. They study crop rotation, pest control, and the importance of biodiversity in a farm ecosystem. Activities include planning and maintaining a section of the garden, analyzing the growth and health of plants, and exploring innovative agricultural techniques such as hydroponics and vertical farming. This level focuses on developing problem-solving skills, scientific inquiry, and a deeper understanding of sustainable agricultural practices.
